Legacy of the Void Announced: Multiplayer Unit Details

Legacy of the Void Was announced at Blizzcon 2014 and here are some more details from the multiplayer panel about some new changes and units being bought onto the battlefield. BETA WILL BE IN THE FIRST HALF OF 2015

 

TERRAN

HERC

  HERC

  • Created from the Barracks
  • Grapple (New Abilitiy)
  • HERC good vs light – 1 shot banes good vs probes/scv/drones but due to armor will tank alot of damage
  • Gets rid of endless Zerg Ling/Bane games and forces zerg to pick a “meatier composition”
  • Protoss Army Micro (splitting) – Using HERCs vs Immortals can be countered by good positioning
  • Concern about hellbat overlap (time/role)

CYCLONE

Cyclone

  • Created from the Factory
  • Lock On (new ability) targets and can move while firing
  • Can attack Air/ground
  • New way to open for terrans
  • Eliminate priority targets (Queens) (bunkers) (drops) (oracles/banshees)

SIEGE TANK

  • picked up in seige mode
  • 1 per medivac
  • more micro portential
  • Seige Tank more offensive opportunity (less passive)

THOR

  • High impact payload is removed
  • Self Repair added (new ability)
  • Looking to improve this (cooldown etc)

BANSHEE

  • movement speed upgrade at fusion core
  • Base range +1
  • Banshees in TvT might be too strong
  • From testing – Cyclone effective counter though

CATTLEBRUISER

  • Can teleport anywhere even without vision (confirmed)
  • There will more changes to add micro to BC

ZERG LURKERRRRRRR

Luker

  • Built from lurker den (upgrade of hydra den)
  • improved version from BW
  • upgrade to get to Siege range at Lurker Den
  • Line splash damage
  • burrows to attack
  • cyclone counters this unit – outranges and movement
  • Lurkers outrange all base defenses (But only with the siege upgrade)
  • can be microd vs (using correct movement)
  • Primary Role is to counter mass roach in ZvZ

RAVAGER

Ravager

  • Corrosive Bile (New ability
  • Breaks Forcefields
  • Good vs Lurkers and Seige Tanks
  • If Ravager counters lurker then Roach v Roach wont be disrupted

CORRUPTOR

  • Caustic Spray (new ability)
  • Damage over time.
  • Whilst casting it cannot attack and cannot move
  • Good vs undefended buildings
  • However with Corruption removed Corruptor’s Role as anti air could be removed

SWARM HOST

  • Role changed to mobile harrassment unit
  • CD of locusts increased – locusts damage increased
  • Forces Zerg to be active not passive
  • Manually send each locust wave (no autospawn)
  • Locusts cannot attack whilst flying – but swoop down to the ground and attack on the ground
  • Still only attack ground

NYDUS WORM

  • Can’t be damaged until morphed
  • Can be seen while burrowing though

PROTOSS WARP IN

  • 200% damage
  • increased time (8 seconds)
  • more risk with gateway based all ins (defending warp in units or not)
  • not final – worries with defensive nerf vs drops and vs ling runby

DISRUPTOR

Disruptor

  • No attack
  • Purification Nova (new ability)
  • Passes through units
  • Massive burst damage
  • Doesnt hit air
  • Harrassment unit
  • Concern its role will overlap with collosus – more fun with variety of roles
  • Tuning options with collosus could be to come

WARP PRISM

  • 6 range picking up units

IMMORTAL

  • Barrier active (new ability)
  • Allows it to become more vesatile
  • might be too strong with timing attacks

ORACLE

  • Revelation detects units
  • Envision removed
  • Good vs banshee
  • Stasis Ward (new ability)
  • Enemy units  in stasis Can’t;  move/attack/use abilities
  • Good AOE Stasis
  • Force unit splitting no deathball of Roach/Hydra

TEMPEST

  • Faster movement speed
  • Only attack Ground
  • Disintergration (new ability)
  • Short Range cast
  • Disintegration Stops Passive play by forcing engagements

CARRIER

  • Release interceptors (new ability)
  • Target area will be attacked/defended by all interceptors
  • Carrier can leave and interceptors will remain fighting
  • Can rebuild/interceptors once they have been released
  • Mobile harassment unit similar role to new swarm host

OTHER

  • Protoss units could still be added – not ready yet for alpha – Could still be in beta
  • Protoss Changes – Protoss weaker earlier in the game in testing – added units could be to give protoss more strength early game

NEW FEATURES

AUTOMATED TOURNAMENTS

  • Battle Net Sign up
  • Sign up that day and play it same day
  • Capture Tournament experiance
  • Know who your playing (prepare for your opponents)
  • Veto Maps per round
  • Groups into Bracket play (4 man groups)
  • 2 Players advance from group play
  • Duration is a concern – 3-4 hour duration is target
  • It could be Bo1 instead of Bo3 maybe
  • Rewards could be tournament badge system or portraits
  • A Clan mode may be added as the next step if this is a successful

ARCHON MODE

  • 1v1 with ally
  • Macro/Micro
  • There may be ranked mode implemented before the beta

 

Q&A (The good questions anyway)

Performance issues if you add too many ingame skins (When asked if more customization to identify your army)

Income rate hasn’t changed.

Efficient on 1 base is still 16 workers on mineral but would mine out faster now.

Forces Faster expansions and more opportunities for engagements
